Erfie collects as little personal information as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated: 8 June 2026.
Who we are
Erfie is a free, non-commercial residential property data tool. We operate the site at erfie.co.za. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@erfie.co.za.
What we collect
We collect the minimum necessary to provide the service:
- Email address — only if you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter via the subscription form in the footer.
- Anonymous usage data — standard web server logs (requested URL, browser type, timestamp). We do not use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, fingerprinting, or third-party trackers.
We do not collect your name, phone number, physical address, ID number, property details, or browsing behaviour across other sites.
How we use your email
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we use your email address only to send you the Erfie newsletter — typically occasional updates about new data, features, and market summaries. We do not sell, share, or rent your email to any third party. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any newsletter email or emailing hello@erfie.co.za with "Unsubscribe" in the subject line.
Where we store your data
Email addresses are stored in a Supabase database hosted in the United States (Supabase's default region). Supabase is SOC 2 compliant and encrypts data at rest and in transit. We do not export or back up this data elsewhere.
Legal basis (POPIA)
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), we process your email address based on your consent — you actively submit it via the subscription form. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time (see "Your rights" below).
Cookies
Erfie does not set any cookies for analytics, tracking, or advertising. The only cookie-like mechanism is the session identifier used by Cloudflare Pages for infrastructure — this is anonymous and temporary. No personal information is stored in cookies.
Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request that we correct or update your data
- Deletion — request that we delete your data
- Objection — object to the processing of your data
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@erfie.co.za. We will respond within 30 days as required by POPIA.
Data retention
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we delete your email from the active subscriber list within 30 days.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- Supabase — database hosting (privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy)
- Cloudflare — CDN and hosting (privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacy)
- Resend — email delivery (planned for Phase 2; privacy policy at resend.com/privacy)
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising or tracking network.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make material changes, we will notify subscribers via email.
